About Me

I am clinical social worker specializing in therapy for individuals, couples and families with private practice locations in Atlanta, Georgia and in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I work with a broad spectrum of clients.

I have over 25 years of experience helping people with all sorts of life challenges. I take a direct practical approach as a psychotherapist to help you achieve your goals as soon as possible. I have extensive training in working with children, adolescents, families, and couples. In addition to my graduate education, I have studied interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and biofeedback training in order to provide interventions that have proven effectiveness.

I balance caring and careful listening with an active approach which includes giving information, suggesting books, identifying groups and activities to try, transforming negative thinking to positive, and breaking down changes into manageable steps. While providing previously-tested effective tools for making changes, I encourage clients to modify ideas to fit their values and life situations. Growth must be at your pace in order to keep the gains you make.

Over the course of my career I have provided multiple services across multiple settings, including: outpatient private practice, inpatient psychiatric hospital services, consultation to a mental health center, psychiatric family services, and child welfare agencies; and teaching as a university faculty member. I am licensed to practice independently as a clinical social worker in Georgia and in Tennessee. My work is focused providing therapy services, consultation, training, and workshops.

Currently, I am working in my own private practice, where I provide private and confidential counseling support services to adults, children and adolescents. I am an Authorized Training provider with Casey Family Programs. I have numerous published articles and professional presentations about identifying parent and family strengths through my collaboration with the University of Tennessee Mental Health Services Research Center.

I present workshops and speak to general audiences on topics to improve the quality of life including stress management, family relationships, building optimism, finding balance, and integrating meditation and mindfulness into day-to-day life.

Many of the people I help are facing mid-life and end-of-relationship transitions. Others are concerned that their children are not reaching their full potential. I provide therapy for people of all ages seeking relief from anxiety, depression, and trauma history. I work with people who wish to increase their social confidence and personal efficacy in reaching their life goals. Whatever the present concern, my goal is to help you create the life you envision, to connect with yourself and others and to find meaning in your activities.
